Zorunluluk ve tavsiye

Must/have to gereklilik; should tavsiye bildirir. Must not yasaktır, do not have to zorunluluk yokluğudur.

Olasılık ve çıkarım

Might olasılığı, must güçlü olumlu çıkarımı, cannot güçlü olumsuz çıkarımı bildirir.

modal + V1; modal + have + V3
